Donnez-moi ein Break! (Time Off From Piano Practicing)

Ten seconds – Hands off keys; stand up; take deep breath; yell at piano, composer or self; laugh; sit; play.

Thirty seconds or as needed – Dance around room, singing problematic passage. Don’t trip!

Two hours – Minimum break after four hours’ practice. (Ninety minute min. after three hours.)

Thirty-six continuous hours – Weekly break; say from a suppertime to second morning after. Don’t touch piano!

Three continuous weeks – Annual break. Takes perhaps two weeks to come back from it; and when you do, you’re playing better.

Eighteen months? – Not a break, but a crisis. See Thank You, Jacquie D..
