My mother, who was visiting, was approached after the performance by a young woman (21 at the time) who introduced herself as Ruth Meckler, from Detroit, a pianist herself. Speaking passionately, she said two things. \u201cYou <i>must<\/i> take him to the very best teachers,\u201d and \u201cTell him whatever he does, for God\u2019s sake don\u2019t become a pianist. It\u2019s too hard!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Ruth Meckler was for most of her career better known as Ruth Laredo.
